Daniel Gaffney
Practical Experience:
Daniel Gaffney is a New York Institute of Finance faculty member who specializes in Internal Audit and Risk Management. His career spans over 20 years in a variety of professional services and risk management roles for major accounting firms and financial corporations in the United States.
Dan is currently the Principal and Founder of Daniel Gaffney & Associates LLC in Chicago. Dan and his firm provide independent consulting for small and mid-sized companies that need to improve their corporate governance and risk management processes. His firm also provides internal audit and litigation support services to companies of all sizes.
Prior to establishing his independent consultancy, Dan held positions in internal audit and litigation support for several financial services companies headquartered in Chicago. Dan has also worked in professional service roles in external audit and internal audit for major accounting firms providing services to companies in a variety of industries. Dan has developed and delivered national training programs within professional services firms for the firms’ professionals as well as training for the firms’ clients.
Dan began his career in accounting as a staff auditor with a public accounting firm in the Chicago area. He then joined the Special Deputy’s Office in the State of Illinois, where he conducted financial analysis and litigation support of insolvent insurance companies placed under State supervision. Dan also testified as an expert witness for the prosecution of suspected fraud.
Dan is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater and a Master of Business Administration Degree from DePaul University in Chicago. Dan is a member of the Illinois CPA Society, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.
