Jefferson D. Haskins, Jr.

Practical Experience:


Jefferson Haskins is the owner of Jefferson D. Haskins Jr. and Associates CHTD, an accounting and consulting firm. Since 1993 he has been a member of the adjunct faculty of Roosevelt University, Walter E. Heller College of Business. From 1976 to 1983 Jeff was Assistant Professor of Accounting at Roosevelt. Jeff now serves as adjunct faculty, where he teaches Accounting Information Systems, Auditing, Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting, and Individual Income Taxes.

Jeff began his career as a U.S. Postal Inspector and worked mostly mail fraud cases. He then moved to the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent. At the IRS, Jeff performed tax audits of individuals, small businesses, and large multinational corporations.

In 1979, Jeff volunteered as campaign treasurer for Danny K. Davis, a candidate for a seat on the Chicago City Council. Subsequently, Chicago Mayor Harold Washington appointed Jeff as Director of Finance & Chief Fiscal Officer of the City of Chicago, Department of Human Services. In this role, Jeff managed the financial resources of this $115 million department. Jeff also served the campaign of U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis as treasurer from 1996 to 2001.

In 1989, Jeff was appointed Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of Professional Health Care of America, Inc., a publicly traded corporation. Managing three Vice Presidents, Jeff was responsible for SEC and public reporting, general accounting, budgeting, purchasing, cash management, banking relations, and administration.

In 1996, Jeff was hired by Barack Obama to manage the financial activities and campaign finance reporting for his first run for office (a successful outcome as he was elected to the Illinois Senate). From 2001 – 2003, Jeff was Director of Finance and Operations for the Office of the Cook County Clerk (the second largest County Clerk’s Office in the U. S.).
