There are many features that distinguish futures and forwards, and this module will discuss these in detail. Because forwards and futures originated in the commodities markets and are distinguished in some respects more clearly in those markets, we have used commodities as a consistent example throughout this module, supplemented with common financial instruments such as foreign exchange and stock indexes.
