Country Competitiveness

The financial markets crisis that started in early 2007 is almost unprecedented in its impact, with losses not only in markets and financial institutions, but loss of public confidence generally in the financial sector. The slowdown was expected to be confined to the USA but reality has shown the downturn has spread to other industrialized countries. Policymakers are struggling to manage this downturn while preparing their economies to perform in an increasingly volatile financial landscape. It is now crucial that countries put in place policies that will underpin economic growth and development.

This session will explain the current landscape and why certain countries are more successful than others in raising income levels and opportunities for their population thus allowing policymakers and business leaders to perform competitively both at home and in the global economy.
