Corporate Finance and Financial Management Solutions for Wealth Advisors

This two-day course will help wealth managers understand and respond to client’s business needs by targeted questioning techniques. Participants will learn to understand a client’s goals and financial situation, issues and concerns by engaging the client in a business discussion and identifying opportunities for their firm based on an analysis of the client’s business. Via a case study, participants will practice discussing a consultative plan that entrepreneurs and business owners perceive as value added services.

Students will be able to:
  • Understand the company’s business and operations through a review of the client’s cash conversion cycle
  • Identify the risks inherent in the client’s business and potential risk management solutions
  • Determine relevant cash flows and analyze working capital needs, excess capacity, seasonal and cyclical needs to determine financing alternatives
  • Understand the client’s customer base, how the client sells the product, ARs issues, collection issues, payment processing, cash management and potential off balance sheet financing opportunities
  • Examine the company’s raw material sourcing needs and identify cost savings through commodity hedging strategies
  • Discuss purchasing patterns and possible use of trade finance instruments and FX solutions
  • Review the company’s employee base and labor relations to determine opportunities for pension planning, individual business retirement plans, insurance, workers’ compensation, payroll and profit sharing plans.
  • Analyze the strategic growth areas in the client’s business and recommend appropriate financing alternatives including business loans, construction loans mortgages, letters of credit, SBLCs, PLCs, private equity, subordinated debt
  • Review the business ownership structure to determine risks, issues, value creation
  • Identify key management issues including succession planning, exit strategies, beneficial owners, KMLI, guarantees holding company issues, ownership of patents and trademarks, share buyouts
  • Evaluate investment opportunities including project analysis, capital budgeting, payback, internal rate of return, purchase or lease of property, plant and equipment, sale/leaseback scenarios
  • Analyze current liability structure and determine ideal capital structure taking into account cost of capital, cost of debt
  • Review current debt outstanding to determine risks and risk management tools
  • Work with the company on financial forecasting and key value drivers to determine future needs
