His learning & development specialties include customized or “bespoke” programs in those subject areas, as well as onboarding and organizational effectiveness in specialized financial organizations such as hedge funds and wealth management firms.

Charly has over 30 years experience in investment and commercial banking, consulting, hedge funds and learning & development in New York, London and Chicago. He began his career as a credit officer for Citibank in New York, approving and structuring US and international credit facilities for multinational chemical companies, and trained credit officers in loan structuring and pricing.

As a pioneer in the derivatives markets, and head of derivatives marketing in the US for several large banks, he completed many “first time” transactions for various financial institutions, completed the first interest rate swap for Citibank in the United States, and helped the World Bank develop its swap program. He has extensive experience in starting new finance and derivatives activities within banks, including derivatives marketing, US and international fixed income private placements and bond issues, credit derivatives, and commodity swaps. He developed credit exposure methodology for interest rate and currency swaps at Citibank and First Chicago, and completed many complex structured transactions including U.S. private placements, equity-linked international private placements, bonds swapped into foreign currencies and options, securitization-related hedges, asset swaps and long-term gold forwards. He helped establish the credit derivatives business at Rabobank, and completed over $12 billion in credit derivative transactions.

As co-head of the credit risk management practice at Deloitte & Touche, Charly completed executive level market and credit risk management consulting projects covering enterprise-wide market and credit risk reporting, foreign exchange, derivatives and organizational structure. He has arranged consulting engagements for privatization and capital markets development in the former Soviet Union, and has served as an expert witness in NYSE arbitration. He has conducted training assignments for companies such as Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Citibank, Barclays Capital, AllianceBernstein, State Street Investment Management, Bank of America, Citadel, Wachovia, UBS and Dresdner.

Most recently, Charly was SVP Learning & Development for Financial Risk Management, a premier London-based global fund of hedge funds, and developed a unique “boot camp” program to bring all employees to a basic knowledge of the fund of hedge funds business (e.g. investment strategies, due diligence, portfolio construction, operations and marketing), assimilate new employees, and preserve a unique high performance culture in a rapid growth environment.
